Here are some ways I use technology in my classroom:
- eSpark: a program that our school purchased that uses the MAP data to determine a goal for students in reading and math. Teachers can adjust the goal as needed. Students take pre/post quizzes and watch videos and play games on apps related to their quest.
- Epic: this a a fabulous app that is FREE for all educators. My students use this during our reading rotations. They create a student account (I did this for them) and they can read many different ebooks. Some are even audio ebooks!
- Kahoot!: We use this with the iPads to review for assessments with science and social studies. The students love this as well. Very interactive.
- Google Form/QR Codes: I have created a google form that is attached to a QR code that students use to check out when they use the restroom. This way I have data of who all went and at what time/subject area. Students think is is a cool way to sign out for the restroom.
- SeeSaw: this is a online portfolio students can create to share with their teachers and/or parents. I am still getting to know this app and all the many possibilities.
As you can see I love technology because I know it interests my students. If we want to really engage them we need to make sure they can use the 21st century tools. However we need to make sure the students are using them in a critical way so that they can fully see these devices as tools and not toys.
